Every service has a process
We've been refining those for each one.
Getting Started
Your idea, vision, and message are the star of the story we will tell.
- Free Discovery Call: You share your idea, vision, and message
- Plan Creation: Commitment-free options sent to you, and a collaborative review of those to make sure it's right
- Booking: With mutual agreement, we take the next steps and reserve our time.
Execution
Capturing your story beautifully and easily takes a little work and getting to know each other!
- Visioning/Meet & Greet: The details and messages of your story, and of the shoot itself, are ironed out.
- Collaboration & Preparation: Together we organize all the details to make sure we have a successful shoot and that you’re comfortable doing it!
- Shoot Days: Your story is born! All the details we’ve prepared together and the time we’ve spent getting to know you help make sure we have a great shoot day.
- Editing: With your content shot, it is now shaped and moulded into the final product. This is the bulk of the work, believe it or not!
- Revisions & Final Cut (doc and commercial videos): For commercial and documentary story videos, you have a chance to provide feedback of course!
- Delivery: Your story is sent to you and is ready for you to use at will.

01
Discovery & Booking
Your idea, vision, and message are the star of the story we will tell. We want to imagine together what is POSSIBLE…not tell you what is not.
After your free Discovery Call, we come up with some plans, and an estimate of the effort (and prices) of those options. Once we agree, we send an invoice for a retaining deposit, and get the ball rolling.
Book your free Discovery Call, or you can fill in a Request Form. We’ll send you some additional information before we chat either way.
Please check out our Frequently Asked Questions page as well.
02
Visioning/Meet & Greet
Making your photos or videos beautifully and easily takes a little planning and getting to know each other.
We sit down with you, maybe at one of the locations for your shoot, and discuss:
- You and your story
- What you want the end result to say
- The people involved we need to know about
- Maybe a style and moodboard
- Shotlists or shoot itinerary
- Any other logistics we need to discuss
- Plan location scouts as needed
- Settle on shoot dates (if applicable)
Once this is complete, we often continue to collaborate until shoot day to finalize other relevant information.

03
Pre-Production
This is the nuts and bolts of making a shoot happen. It includes (but is not limited to):
- Staffing
- Hiring talent if needed
- Prepping and renting gear if needed
- Getting any permits required
- Preparing call-sheets/work briefs
- Preparing interview questions if it’s a video
- Planning out how we’re going to get certain shots
Help us plan ahead so you get the shots you want!
04
Shoot Day(s)
To get photos or videos you may have never imagined were possible, we apply our years of experience helping you relax for the cameras and guide you through sharing your story, to get the message you want to see come across.
To make your story as beautiful as possible, it’s also important to play close attention to, among other things:
- The lighting
- What is in our frames, our composition
- The sound – bad sound ruins a video
- Using the right gear
05
Editing
Editing is most of the volume of the work, and differs between photo and video.
For video, our talented editing team:
- Reviews all the notes from the Discovery, Visioning, pre-production, and shoot day
- Synchronizes all the footage in our software
- Edits a rough cut, selecting and setting it to music, adding titles and supers as needed.
Once it has been reviewed internally and approved, it is sent to you!
For photos, the process is different. Most of our photography clients would like a lot of choice to pick the images they will need to use, so we provide you with many, edited for web use, and the tools and instruction you need to sort them out. The truly detailed editing work is left for the pictures that will be displayed and hung, and is included with any prints you buy from us, or can be billed hourly.
06
Revisions & Final Cut(if applicable)
Applicable only for video stories, this is the final polish on your story. You have a chance to provide your feedback (knowing that the final colour and sound grading haven’t been done). We typically include 1h of our editor’s time for revisions for brand stories. More than this would be billed.
After the final cut is approved, we send it to our colourist for the final polish and run it through our audio software.
After this, the video is complete! We send you the final invoice, and when payment is received, provide the links for download.

Review
Only a fool assumes they know everything – as every client is different, so our process is required to be flexible and adapt to the unexpected. We take your feedback as a vital part of our ongoing growth as your “friends behind the lens”.
The team at Studio Lumen said “We should be shooting the way that you want it to be shot. We'll bring the technical stuff, but we won't just tell you what we think that you need or want. We'll actually listen."
